From here it’s not far to Bowral for our visit to Fairground Follies Antique Mechanical Music Museum. Reminisce amongst the greatest collection of self-playing instruments in the Southern Hemisphere. We will be entertained by the Taj Mahal, regarded as the grandest piece of mechanical music in the world; the 100-year-old Steam Gallopers (Carousel), street organs, fair organs and Nickelodeons and much, much more. Late afternoon we arrive at the Novotel Sydney Olympic Park Hotel, our base for the next three nights in Sydney.
(Lunch at Heatherbrae Pies, Welcome dinner in the hotel)
Novotel Sydney Olympic Park (3 nights)
Day 2 (BLD): The Riverboat Postman Cruise: Wednesday 12 June 2024
Today we join the mail run! Meeting the Riverboat Postman in Brooklyn, we hop on board and begin cruising along the Hawkesbury River. Known as one of Australia’s greatest scenic waterways, with its historical isolated communities, the Last Riverboat Postman has been servicing the region for over a century. Sitting back, we enjoy the tranquil scenery of sandy beach coves and fjord like inlets while listening to the lively commentary from the Skipper as we make our all-important deliveries. Back on dry land, we return to Sydney and visit the Museums Discovery Centre at Castle Hill. On our guided tour we see and experience the vast collection. From the rare car collection, to furniture, musical instruments, and Olympic memorabilia. You are sure to discover some hidden gems as well as see collections not on public display. Then we head back to the hotel for a lovely dinner.
(Breakfast and Dinner in the hotel, lunch served on Postman River Cruise)
Day 3 (BD): Vivid Sydney Lights: Thursday 13 June 2024
Following breakfast, we will embark on a walking tour around the Sydney Olympic Park precinct. On our tour we will see and hear about the Sydney Olympic Park sites and how it has changed since the Olympics in 2000 and what the venues are being used for today. We return to our hotel and have some free time to purchase an early lunch before heading out again this afternoon. Not far away is the Newington Armoury, where we take a guided tour to hear about the original 1897 precinct and wharf, a torch lit walk through the lantern passageways of the original gunpowder magazine and access to former explosives storehouse and laboratory. Late afternoon we start making our way into central Sydney and arrive at the Sydney Tower Restaurant for our special dinner where we can watch the Sydney Vivid lights turn on. Following our dinner, we then head to King Street Wharf and join our Vivid Lights cruise on Sydney Harbour where we can get a different perspective of the stunning light displays. On conclusion of our cruise, we return to Homebush and our hotel.
