Day 1 (LD): Wagga Wagga to the Mornington Peninsula: Sunday, 13 October 2024
Welcome to our 5-day Mornington Peninsula Tour. With everyone on board we head off from Wagga and pass through Albury-Wodonga and Wangaratta. Our lunch stop is at the Kerrisdale Mountain Railway and Museum. We take a ride on the narrow-gauge tourist railway and admire the panoramic views before our BBQ lunch and talk about the Museum. Our afternoon stop is at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and finally, we arrive at the Sands Hotel by Nightcap Plus in Carrum Downs and check into our hotel for the next 4 nights. This will be an excellent base to visit both the Mornington Peninsula and Phillip Island.

Day 2 (BD): Mornington Peninsula: Monday, 14th October 2024
This morning, we head to the Mornington Peninsula and arrive at the Arthurs Seat Base Station. Here we board the Eagle Chairlift to the Summit and lookout – the highest point of the Mornington Peninsula. At 300 meters it provides spectacular panoramic views of Port Phillip Bay. On a clear day the view extends as far as the city skyline, the You Yang Mountain Ranges and Mount Macedon. We have morning tea in the Summit Café then return to the base station. Next, we follow the coastal road through Rye and arrive in Sorrento for some free time to wander the main street and purchase lunch. This afternoon we visit the Cape Schanck Light House, one of the most picturesque locations on the Mornington Peninsula. The Lighthouse and the Lighthouse Keepers Cottages are part of an historical site that has remained unchanged and undisturbed for more than 140 years. We take a guided tour of the Light Keepers Cottage and look through the museum before heading back to our hotel.
(Breakfast & dinner in the hotel/lunch at own expense)
Day 3 (BLD): Phillip Island: Tuesday, 15th October 2024
We have a slightly later start to the day, as tonight we will be returning late back to our hotel. We have just over a 1-hour drive to Phillip Island and our first stop is in San Remo to watch the daily Pelican feeding at noon. From here it’s a short drive to the National Vietnam Veterans Museum where we have lunch and a chance to look around the museum. Early afternoon we arrive at the Churchill Island Heritage Farm. In 1976 Churchill Island was bought by the Victorian Conservation Trust and it is now part of, and managed by, the Phillip Island Nature Park. There are historical displays, including a museum of old farming machinery. The island is a working farm with highland cattle, sheep, ducks, chickens and Clydesdale horses. We continue our touring this afternoon, as we take a scenic drive along the Island, passing the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit before arriving at the Nobbies Centre. This area offers spectacular coastal scenery as well as viewing the offshore seal colony at Seal Rocks. Heading back towards Cowes, it’s time for an early dinner at the nearby Phillip Island RSL. Then we travel to the Phillip Island Penguin Parade Visitor Centre. Just after sunset, the penguins cross Summerland Beach to return to their sand-dune burrows. To see the Penguins come out of the surf in small groups and waddle up the beach is a unique and fascinating spectacle. At the end of the Penguin Parade, we re-board the coach and head back to Currum Downs.
(Breakfast in the motel/Lunch at National Vietnam Veterans Museum, Dinner at Phillip Island RSL)
Day 4 (BLD): The Dandenongs Ranges: Wednesday, 16th October 2024
We start the day at the top of Mount Dandenong at Sky High. First established as a survey point in 1861 this historic area affords a unique overview of Greater Melbourne. Our next visit is to Mont De Lancey Historic Homestead. This historic 1880’s homestead was built by pioneer Henry Sebire who even fired the bricks on the property. Generations of the Sebire family lived in the house until 1993 when it was donated to the community. The property includes a historic timber slab kitchen, 1920’s St Marys Chapel, dairy, blacksmiths shop, and vintage machinery shed and museum. Following our tour, we have lunch at the onsite café, then this afternoon we visit Cloudehill Garden and Nursery and have time to look through the stunning gardens before returning to our hotel.
(Breakfast & dinner in the hotel/lunch at Mont De Lancey Homestead)
Day 5 (BL): Heading Home: Thursday, 17th October 2024
Following breakfast, we depart the hotel and travel through Melbourne’s eastern suburbs to arrive at Montsalvat artist colony in Eltham with historic buildings dating back to 1934. There are hand-built mud brick buildings and storybook gardens, as well as impressive structures for us to look through on our guided tour. From here we make our way to Seymour for our lunch at the Seymour Club and start our journey home back to Wagga Wagga
